The Faculty Board is responsible for ensuring that third-cycle students receive a good introduction and are given access to relevant information about rules and procedures.
Third-cycle students who teach first- or second-cycle courses must also have completed introductory training in teaching and learning in higher education, or have acquired the equivalent knowledge in some other way.
Two courses are compulsory for all doctoral students at the Faculty of Science, see below.
This 1.5 HEC course is required and is given in English twice a year.
The course includes the University of Gothenburg’s introductory course for new staff members (one day) and four days at the Faculty of Science. The course is intended to provide useful understanding of the rules, rights and obligations that apply to third-cycle education at the University of Gothenburg and the Faculty of Science. Third-cycle students should take this course as early as possible after admission. The course also includes training in presentation techniques, scholarly writing, etc.
Starting date for the university part is 11 May, 2012 (Last day of registration 1 May) and the faculty part is 26 March, 2012 (Last day of registration 15 March ***A few seats are still available, contact Henrik Tallgren***).

Introductory course for graduate students
The course is open for doctoral students at the Faculty of Science through a co-operation between the Pedagogical Development and Interactive Learning unit (PIL) and the Faculty of Science. English versions will be available autumn semester of 2011.
