Sustainable Marine Ecosystems

Marine ecosystems globally are threatened by large and regional scale environmental changes in many cases created by past and present human activities. The productivity of marine ecosystem services, from fish, shellfish and algae for food, to attractive swimming beaches and beautiful underwater sceneries for diving tourism, are all depending on intact marine ecosystems. To be able to explore the marine resources without eroding or even destroying them, we must find methods for sustainable uses, and for this we need comprehensive knowledge in various disciplines (science, social science, technology).

The research school in Sustainable Marine Ecosystems at University of Gothenburg will support research training in areas of research relevant to the overall goal of increasing our knowledge of the structure and function of marine ecosystems, their dynamics (including changes over ecological and evolutionary time-scales), their potential threats and the managements of these ecosystems. The research school organizes research training for PhD students and post-docs, workshops and seminars, as well as other activities with similar goals. The activities are generally open for any scientist but priority of funding is for graduate students at University of Gothenburg (all faculties).

The programme leader accept suggestions of activities at any time. Send an email to kristina.sundback@marecol.gu.se.
