The properties of materials play an important role in many applications. Thus fundamental understanding of why is crusial. Starting from atoms, molecules, clusters over nanoscience and nanotechnology the program covers a broad range of condensed matter and materials reasearch.
In fact laws of physics on the atomic scale, quantum mechanics, determine the macroscopic properties of materials. The aim of this master program is to present courses that builds up knowledge and skill based on this microscopic perspective.
A Master of Science Degree in Physics of Materials and Biological Systems is suitable for a professional career in different sectors of the advanced material and technological industry, in government authorities such as environmental control and inspection units as well as in academia as a researcher in the field of experimental and theoretical physics. As a well trained physicist you could also play an important role in research teams of the more applied sciences chemistry and biology.
This program covers a broad range of condensed matter and materials research today, starting from atoms, molecules, clusters over nanoscience and nanotechnology all the way to realistic simulations of material properties and technical and industrial applications.
The program also includes soft matter which partly consists of syntetic materials but also biological systems where fundamental physics principles and methods are applied to biological and living matter from biolmolecules and cells up to the living state. You can choose between a track in Material Physics or Biophysics.
A Bachelors degree or the equivalence to 180 higher education credits or 180 ECTS credits at an accredited university, with a minimum of 90 p in physics. English B level or English proficiency equivalent to IELTS 6.5 no part under 5.5 or TOEFL 575 p, TWE score 4.5 is also required.
Selection: Selection is based upon the number of credit points from previous university studies, maximum 225 hec.
