The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has begun work on a new climate report, and three researchers from the University of Gothenburg have been selected to take part in this prestigious project.
Following an open invitation to universities and university colleges in spring 2010, a total of 48 Swedish researchers were nominated to participate in the IPCC. Nine of those have now been chosen to work on the panel’s Fifth Assessment Report, including three from the University of Gothenburg:
Deliang Chen, professor at the Department of Earth Sciences, is one of the world’s leading climate researchers and has been executive director of the international research organisation International Council for Science since 2009. Chen will join the panel’s Working Group I assessing the climate system.
Ulf Molau, professor at the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, conducts research into arctic and alpine ecology and is an expert on climate impacts on tundra. Molau will join the panel’s Working Group II assessing effects, adaptation and vulnerability.
Thomas Sterner, professor at the School of Business, Economics and Law, is a leading environmental economist and conducts research into the design of policy instruments. Sterner will join the panel’s Working Group III on mitigation.
The IPCC’s Fifth Assessment Report will be presented as a series of reports in 2013 and 2014. Read more at: http://www.ipcc.ch/
